When I joined iXie Gaming in 2023, I never imagined how exciting my journey as a game tester would be. From the very start, I had the opportunity to work on a project with one of the most popular mobile drag racing games.
One of the most thrilling features I tested was Live Racing, where players compete in real-time, experiencing seamless race syncing, smooth connectivity, and fair matchmaking based on player ranking and car performance (PP/RP). It was exhilarating to see how real-time head-to-head racing combined with stunning graphics created such an immersive experience.
Ensuring smooth gameplay, identifying even the subtlest bugs, and collaborating with developers and designers to fine-tune performance made this project special. Every test run felt like a step toward delivering a seamless, high-energy experience to millions of players worldwide.
Becoming a Game Tester: It’s More Than Just Playing Games
People often assume game testing is just about playing games all day. It’s about having a keen eye for detail and thinking like a detective—spotting inconsistencies, predicting potential issues, and communicating findings effectively with the development team.
Being adaptable is key because games evolve constantly. A tester must stay ahead of the game to understand new mechanics, analyse their impact, and ensure every update enhances the player experience.
For Women Entering Gaming QA: Trust Your Passion
For women aspiring to enter the Gaming QA field, my biggest advice is – trust your passion for gaming and technology—it can take you far. When I first stepped into this industry, I wasn’t sure how I would fit in. But with time, I realized that passion, attention to detail, and the ability to problem-solve creatively are what truly matter.
- Participate in game jams to gain hands-on experience.
- Attend industry events to build your network.
- Join online gaming communities to learn from others.
- Seek mentorship—there are many women in gaming who are eager to support and guide newcomers.
The Future of Game Testing: AI & Human Creativity
As exciting as game testing is today, the future is even more thrilling. AI is set to transform the way we test games, handling repetitive test cases and even predicting potential bugs before they happen. This will allow testers like me to focus on more creative problem-solving and player experience enhancements.
However, I firmly believe that AI can’t replace human testers—at least, not entirely. Machines can detect errors, but they can’t feel the emotional journey of a player, understand narrative flow, or fine-tune the experience in the same way humans can.
Keep Learning, Keep Evolving
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my time in game testing, it’s this:
- Be persistent.
- Keep learning.
- Stay curious.
Gaming never stands still, and neither should we. The industry is evolving, and with more women stepping into gaming QA, the future looks brighter than ever. I’m excited to keep pushing boundaries, testing limits, and shaping the future of gaming—one race at a time.
